Michael and Susan’s home from March 24 to April 9, 2015.
In the early spring of 2015, having grown very tired of the chill winter, we put our names on the house sitters site again. Anywhere south and warmer we thought. Michael and Susan were in touch soon after about a 2 week stay at their home in Tallahassee to look after Willow their 12 year old wheaton terrier.
Willow was as sweet as dogs come. She needed 3 medicines administered daily as well as 3 substantial walks.
The home was in a gorgeous local in the middle of the woods with daily morning deer visits. We looked out the back patio doors to a lovely man-made lake.
We were quite content with Willow, and the lovely home and the list of sites we wanted to visit when 4 days in, we got word that Greg’s 90 year old mother had had a fall. We knew one of us had to return home. Michael and Susan were unreachable in Burma. Willow could NOT be left. We decided I would fly home and Greg would stay with Willow in Florida. We had emergency contact information for several neighbours and friends but we felt that would be “passing the buck.” We both agreed one of US had to stay.
Greg picked Susan and Michael up at the airport. They were quite grateful that Greg had stayed to compete what we had signed on to do. Due to circumstances beyond our control, not the best experience for either of us. Greg did not like being alone on the job and I hated missing my holiday but we both feel we did the right thing both by Greg’s mother and by Michael and Susan and Willow.
